Our programs equip you with the skills you’ll need to tackle the environmental health challenges of the future.

The Gangarosa Department of Environmental Health at Rollins and the Department of Environmental Science at Emory College jointly offer a five-year Bachelor of Science in Environmental Sciences and Master of Public Health in Environmental Health dual degree program. Students in this 4 + 1 program will earn a BS and MPH that will prepare them to tackle the most challenging environmental threats of the future.

The MPH in Global Environmental Health (GEH) focuses on environmental issues and disparities that impact health across the world, particularly in low-income settings. The program readies students to do work that simultaneously alleviates poverty and enhances environmental protection while promoting sustainable development. Students have opportunities to collaborate with global community partners, engage in dynamic research both in the field and in the lab, and work alongside world-renowned faculty whose expertise in climate change, infectious disease, and WASH has been positively influencing the field of global environmental health for decades.

Students in the online part-time MPH in Global Environmental Health (GEH) at Rollins study environmental issues and disparities that impact health across the world, particularly in low-income settings. The goal of this program is to learn approaches to simultaneously alleviate poverty and enhance environmental protection while promoting sustainable development. The online part-time GEH MPH program is jointly offered by the Gangarosa Department of Environmental Health and the Hubert Department of Global Health and is administered by the Gangarosa Department of Environmental Health.

The PhD in Environmental Health Sciences (EHS) provides students with interdisciplinary training to better understand the impact of the environment on human health and disease. Students in the program have a wide range of unique opportunities for research and education through the participating departments across campus and the numerous health agencies affiliated with the program. Further, the program aims to produce a unique cadre of future leaders in the field of environmental health sciences who have expertise in both laboratory- and population-based research. Upon graduation, EHS students will have received comprehensive training in the EHS core areas of exposure science, biological mechanisms of susceptibility and disease, and environmental determinants of population health.

The Gangarosa Department of Environmental Health is comprised of a diverse group of accomplished students, faculty, staff, and alumni. The large variety of backgrounds in the department allows for expertise in numerous aspects of environmental health. 

Here, environmental health education reaches beyond the classroom. Many of our members can be found working in the community and putting public health into action. Whether learning in the classroom, conducting research in a lab, or trekking outside to test the water quality of a local creek, you will find a deep passion for public health among all members of our department and community.

Research

Our Research

Research in the Gangarosa Department of Environmental Health spans across a wide range of environmental issues, from the molecular to the global. We tackle complex environmental health concerns from multiple angles with a variety of methods. Our department has a number of strengths in omics, air pollution, toxicology, chemical exposures, climate change, and more. 

We pride ourselves on our dynamic partnerships with other universities, governmental agencies, non-profit organizations, and private companies. Our department is also home to a number of research centers tackling many of the most pressing environmental health issues facing our world today. Rollins students find a wide variety of work-study and other research opportunities through these research centers, individual faculty research projects, and our vast network of collaborative partnerships.
