The HPM department is a hub where innovative research, teaching, and community practice come together. Our faculty and students are at the forefront of research that leads to tangible policy changes—whether it’s investigating barriers and facilitators to quality care, determining factors that influence whether patients receive evidence-based treatment, or integrating economic evaluations and implementation science to design effective interventions.

HPM students are uniquely positioned to succeed in a broad range of roles within the health care system. They receive extensive training in both health care management strategy and health care policy, as well as the leadership and professional development training needed to thrive. Students gain critical skills including policy analysis, health services research, quality improvement, strategic management, human resource management, and health care administrative law.

The three-semester, 12-month MPH in Health Care Management helps students who already have extensive practical public health experience build leadership skills for advanced careers in health care service delivery.

The Master of Health Administration (MHA) is an executive program for working mid-career professionals looking to expand their skills in health care management. This hybrid program is primarily offered in an online, asynchronous format, with students meeting synchronously two to three times per semester and participating in three residency trips to Emory University.

The MPH in Health Policy provides students with a broad understanding of how federal, state, and local policies shape the U.S. health care system. In addition to core courses, students in this program take a concentrated set of courses in a particular field like vulnerable populations or health outcomes. Graduates are well qualified to practice in the private health care industry, nonprofit sector, and government.

Students considering future doctoral work or a career in applied health sciences research are encouraged to apply to the Master of Science in Public Health (MSPH) in Health Services Research. The MSPH is an intensive program that not only teaches core public health concepts, research theory, and methodology, but also in-depth statistical analysis and programming with SAS and STATA. The MSPH offers a small, intimate program with one-on-one instruction and mentorship opportunities.

The PhD in Health Services Research is a full-time program that trains researchers in the fields of health policy, health economics, health management, and health services research. Students take doctoral-level classes in the Department of Economics, the Department of Health Policy and Management, the Goizueta business school, and elsewhere throughout the university. The program prepares students for a variety of research-focused careers in academia, think tanks, foundations, government agencies, pharmaceutical firms, and consulting.
