Medicaid

Healthy policy focused images

Medicaid is a federal and state-funded program that covers millions of Americans and helps them access essential health services. Medicaid provides health coverage to approximately 83 million low-income people in the U.S.—that represents about 24% of people in the country. In addition, Medicaid is the single largest insurer of children in the U.S., providing coverage for 39% of the nation’s children.

“Medicaid is a backbone of health care for America’s children, as well as for the elderly, disabled, and pregnant individuals."

Stephen Patrick, MD, chair of the Department of Health Policy and Management
