Program Overview
The fully online MPH in Behavioral, Social and Health Education Sciences (BSHES) prepares students to be public health researchers and practitioners dedicated to creating meaningful social change and improving population health. In this flexible, online program, students receive intensive training on behavioral and social science theories, methods of health promotion, intervention planning and design, program evaluation and data analysis, and principles of community engagement.
Curriculum
Required Courses
The BSHES program uses behavioral theory to frame public health issues and practice with an emphasis on social determinants of health and social justice. Our curriculum is carefully constructed to enable our BSHES graduates to achieve a range of professional options in their journeys to bring about positive impacts on community health and well-being.
An MPH in BSHES requires 42 credit hours of coursework, including an applied practice experience and integrative learning experience.

Admissions
Admissions Requirements
We aim to matriculate a diverse cohort of students who hold the BSHES values of equity, social justice, and engagement. We firmly believe that each student brings unique skills and talents that enhance and contribute to the BSHES community. Thus, we consider all aspects of your application in the review process.
Evidence of quantitative skill and writing ability must be expressed in the application.
In addition to the SOPHAS application, all applicants will need to submit the following materials when applying to the MPH in BSHES:
- Personal statement that addresses your interest in the field of public health and your specific interest in the Rollins School of Public Health and BSHES.
- College transcripts
- Two letters of recommendation
- Resume
The GRE is not required for admission and will not be considered as part of the application for admission.
Funding
Funding Your Online MPH in BSHES
All students who apply by the January 5, 2026, priority deadline and are admitted will receive a guaranteed $30,000 funding package. Applications must be completed and verified with all supporting documents by the priority deadline.
This package includes:
- A $25,000 tuition scholarship
- A $5,000 applied practice experience award
Guaranteed funding is available as long as funds remain and applies to fall 2026 admissions for the term in which a student begins the program. Students who qualify for more than one institutional award will automatically receive the award of the highest value. To maintain their funding, students simply need to remain in good academic standing.
Guaranteed funding is available to full-time students only. Employees receiving Emory tuition benefits are not eligible.
