Emory University’s Rollins School of Public Health is launching a new certificate program this fall for students interested in enhancing their health communication expertise.

The Science Communication Certificate will give students the skills they need to engage with diverse communities, promote informed decision-making, and combat misinformation to improve health outcomes. As the U.S. experiences widening gaps in health equity, increasing vaccine hesitancy, and diminishing trust in health authorities, this training is more important than ever for public health practitioners.

“In our five-year strategic plan, we committed to strengthening trust in public health information,” says Rollins Dean M. Daniele Fallin, PhD. “This certificate program creates an infrastructure to teach our students how to effectively communicate in a way that allows anyone from community members to government leaders to understand complex public health issues. The increasing prevalence of health misinformation and disinformation highlights the urgent need for these skills, and now Rollins alumni will be able to fill that gap.”

The certificate will train students in everything from science communication fundamentals to working with the media, writing and storytelling, and more. All MPH/MSPH candidates at Rollins, including students in the online MPH program, will be eligible.
