Program Overview
The online part-time MPH in Global Epidemiology (GLEPI) provides global context for epidemiologic training. This joint program offered in partnership through the Department of Epidemiology and the Hubert Department of Global Health prepares students for careers in disease surveillance, prevention, and research in global settings. Students leave the program with both globally framed epidemiologic training and broad exposure to other public health disciplines, allowing them to drive disease control and prevention.
Curriculum
Required Courses
The online part-time MPH in Global Epidemiology curriculum is a total of 42 credit hours, including:
- 9 credits of Rollins core coursework
- 29 credits of epidemiology program courses (including 4 thesis credits)
- 2 credits minimum of global methods selectives (more are optional)
- 2 credits minimum of electives (more are optional)
- 200 hours working in an applied practice experience
Both the thesis and applied practice experience for part-time online MPH students in Global Epidemiology must focus on an international population or an under-resourced population in the United States.
Part-time programs are structured around 3-7 credit hours per semester with a total of 42 credit hours required to complete the degree.
Our structure allows flexibility to increase or decrease the number of credits you take each semester to accommodate your schedule and still complete the degree within the required time limit of five years.

Admissions
Admissions Requirements
Graduate programs in epidemiology require strong quantitative skills. The admissions committee will look for evidence of quantitative readiness by reviewing grades in relevant undergraduate coursework, and volunteer or work experience. During the application process you will have the opportunity to provide additional information for the committee to consider related to your quantitative preparation and skills.
As part of the SOPHAS application, all applicants will need to submit the following materials:
- Statement of purpose and objectives (personal statement), which should describe your interest in the field of public health, epidemiology, and the Rollins School of Public Health. Please address your career goals, and any experiences you may have had that have informed your chosen path.
- Resume
- Letters of recommendation (minimum of two) – it is preferred that applicants submit at least one academic reference and one professional reference
- College transcripts
The GRE is not required for admission and will not be considered as part of the application for admission.
The Department of Epidemiology requires:
- One college-level math course—calculus or statistics are recommended, but not required.
- One college-level science course—biology, chemistry, or physics are recommended, but not required.
- Minimum preferred GPA of 3.0
