MPH Curriculum
Curriculum
Students in online part-time programs at Rollins earn the same MPH degree offered on campus, but with the convenience of online courses.
- Access asynchronous course modules that allow you to review content at your own pace within the context of the course timeline and while managing other life demands.
- Apply public health principles covered in the asynchronous modules to real life public health problems.
- Collaborate with your peers and our renowned faculty.
We also offer a full academic advising support system. Our assistant/associate directors of academic programs serve as the academic advisors for each Rollins department and are the first point of contact for department specific questions, academic advising, classes, and more. They are there every step of the way, guiding our students through their MPH.
All MPH programs require a minimum of 42 credit hours of coursework in the classroom, a 200-hour applied practice experience in the field, and a capstone that lets you apply your knowledge to a culminating project on a topic you’re passionate about.
All public health professionals benefit from having baseline knowledge across disciplines. That’s why, regardless of their concentration, all MPH students take the same set of core courses to set them up for success.
- PUBH 500: Introduction to Public Health
- BSHES 500: Behavioral Sciences in Public Health
- BIOS 500/L: Statistical Methods I with Lab
- EH 500: Perspectives in Environmental Health
- EPI 504: Fundamentals of Epidemiology or EPI 530: Epidemiologic Methods I
- HPM 500: Introduction to the U.S. Health Care System
- GH 500: Critical Issues in Global Health
A foundation in epidemiology, biostatistics, behavioral science, U.S. health care, environmental health, and global health gives all MPH students the tools they need to enact change and create healthier communities after graduation.
Public health is collaborative, and public health researchers and practitioners often work with professionals in other fields like medicine and nursing. All students participate in interprofessional training as part of their MPH education.
An applied practice experience (APE) is a unique opportunity for graduate students to apply skills learned through course work in a professional public health environment.
All Rollins graduate students are required to complete an APE of at least 200 work hours in a public health agency, institution, or community under the supervision of a site supervisor and the guidance of their academic department.
APEs may be completed in your current work setting in cases when you are able to expand your current work responsibilities to fit the APE requirements (program approval required).
Capstone projects allow students to explore a topic of interest in depth—possibly expanding a course project or applied practice experience into new dimensions—to increase practical skills and experience, sharpen presentation skills, gain peer feedback, and increase career development.
