Rodrigo M. Carrillo-Larco Named the Recipient of the NIH 2023 ODP Early-Stage Investigator Lecture
By Myra C. Patrick
The National Institutes of Health (NIH) has named Rodrigo M. Carrillo-Larco, MD, PhD—of the Emory Global Diabetes Research Center and Rollins School of Public Health—as an awardee of the 2023 Office of Disease Prevention (ODP) Early-Stage Investigator Lecture (ESIL).
Carrillo-Larco was selected in recognition for his work in the field of prevention epidemiology and population health focusing on the identification and assessment of risk factors together with screening and identification of populations at high disease risk. Carrillo-Larco says the importance of his research is that, “innovative screening tools will help identify more high-risk people easily and cost-effectively, to prevent diseases or provide early treatment.”
The ESIL award celebrates early-career prevention scientists who have not successfully competed for a substantial NIH-supported research project, but who have already made outstanding research contributions to their respective fields and are poised to become future leaders in prevention research.
“I am delighted to receive this wonderful recognition,” says Carrillo-Larco. “It motivates me to keep up the good work, to do more and better research.”
The ODP's three 2023 Early-Stage Investigator Lecture winners will deliver presentations about their research later this year. Additional details will be posted as they become available at prevention.nih.gov.
