Jessica  Fairley

Associate Professor

Jointly Appointed, Global Health

Dr. Fairley received her undergraduate and medical degrees from Georgetown University. She then completed her combined residency in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics at Brown University followed by fellowship in infectious diseases at Case Western Reserve School of Medicine in Cleveland OH. During fellowship, she completed the Diploma Program in Tropical Medicine and Hygiene. She subsequently earned a Masters in Public Health in global epidemiology from Emory University in 2016. Dr. Fairley joined Emory in 2010 and currently holds a primary appointment as associate professor of medicine in the division of infectious diseases. She is also jointly appointed in Rollins School of Public Health in the Hubert Department of Global Health, where she teaches and mentors students. She works at Emory TravelWell Center where her clinical scope involves preparing travelers for international travel and evaluating returning travelers or immigrants with various syndromes or infections. She also directs the Emory Hansen’s Disease Program, a satellite clinic of the National Hansen’s Disease Program, whose mission is to care for patients with Hansen’s disease (leprosy) and to raise awareness of the disease. Her research and academic interests center around the epidemiology of neglected tropical diseases, in particular, leprosy. Projects focus on the susceptibility, transmission, and morbidity of leprosy by investigating the role of parasitic co-infections, micronutrient deficiencies and environmental reservoirs of M. leprae infection in Minas Gerais, Brazil and North Gondar, Ethiopia. She is also interested in planetary health and climate change affects on infectious diseases in Georgia and other regions. Lastly, she has taught core Global Health courses at RSPH and the College.
