Luminaries Lecture: Longitudinal Health Outcomes in Autosomal Dominant Polycystic Kidney Disease

Featured Speaker: Dr. Xiangqin Cui
Autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD) is the most common inherited cause of end-stage kidney disease (ESKD), affecting approximately 1 in 1,000 individuals. Around 50% of patients with ADPKD require renal replacement therapy by the age of 62. Due to its relative rarity and typically late onset, existing study cohorts have been small and limited in scope, leaving long-term health outcomes underexplored. Leveraging the extensive National VA electronic health record (EHR) databases, established in the late 1990s, we have constructed a cohort of over 12,000 ADPKD patients with more than 20 years of longitudinal data. This cohort offers a unique opportunity to investigate long-term health outcomes, treatment patterns, comorbidities, and healthcare utilization in ADPKD.
