Peter W. F. Wilson, MD is Professor of Medicine in the Division of Cardiology at Emory University School of Medicine, Professor of Public Health (Global Health, Epidemiology) in the Rollins School of Public Health at Emory University, and Director of Epidemiology and Genomic Medicine at the Atlanta VA Medical Center. He was graduated with a B.S. from Yale University in 1970 and received his medical degree from the University of Texas Medical School at San Antonio in 1974. His postgraduate medical training took place at Duke University and he is board certified in internal medicine and endocrinology. He was previously employed by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (1978-1999), Director of Laboratories at the Framingham Heart Study (1983-2003), Professor of Medicine at the Boston University School of Medicine (1999-2003) and Professor of Medicine at the Medical University of South Carolina (2003-2006). His awards and honors include the US Public Health Service Citation Award (1989) US Public Service Commendation Medal (1994), Who's Who in America (2000), and elected a member of the Association of American Physicians (2005). He received the Arthur Agatston Award from the Society of Clinical Cardiovascular Tomography in 2017 and the W. Virgil Brown Distinguished Achievement Award from the National Lipid Association in 2021.  His professional society and committee activities have included American Diabetes Association (Professional Practice Committee 2008-2010), American Heart Association (AHA), Epidemiology and Nutrition, Physical Activity and Metabolism (NPAM) Spring Program Committee Chair (2008-2009), AHA Council of Committees (2009), NPAM Council Vice-Chair 2010-2012, Chair 2012-2014) , AHA Expert Panel on Risk Factors and Subclinical Disease (Chair 2008-2010), American Society of Preventive Cardiology (President 2008-2010), American Board of Clinical Lipidology examining board member (2008-2013), and editorial board memberships (Atherosclerosis Thrombosis and Vascular Biology (2002-2004), Journal of Clinical Lipidology (2006-), Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism (2007-2011, Circulation Cardiovascular Care and Outcomes (2009-2013), Journal of the American Heart Association (editorial board 2011-), ACC/AHA Adult Treatment Panel IV Guideline Committee( 2009-2013), ACC/AHA Risk Assessment Working Group (2009-2013), FDA Endocrine and Metabolic Disease Advisory Committee (2013-2018). His research focuses on metabolic and cardiovascular disease in populations, with a special interest in genetics. He is an active clinician for inpatient and outpatient services for endocrinology and lipidology. Dr. Wilson is an author or coauthor of more than 700 scientific articles and four books.
