Bio

Matheus (Matt) Fernandes Gyorfy is a doctoral student in the Department of Epidemiology. He attended Colorado State University, where he graduated with a B.S. in Biological Sciences and a B.A. in Languages, Literatures, and Cultures. Throughout his undergraduate studies, Matt’s main research focus revolved around cytonuclear interactions in allopolyploid organisms. After a career shift into public health, Matt completed his MPH degree at Emory University. Today, Matt uses his genetic and molecular expertise to focus on the intersection between multi-omics and infectious diseases, where he investigates the role of genomic factors involved in the resistance to tuberculosis infections, the bidirectional relationship between tuberculosis and diabetes mellitus, and DNA methylation patterns in individuals with latent tuberculosis.
