Rollins, WABE Program “Health Wanted” Picked Up by National Distribution Network

Health Wanted, a weekly public health program collaboration between WABE and Rollins School of Public Health, is now available for distribution to public radio stations nationwide through a partnership with Pulitzer Prize-winning public media organization, PRX.

Since launching in summer 2024, the show has helped listeners navigate the important public health headlines of the week with clarity and confidence by breaking down complex topics with approachability, humor, and scientific truth. Health Wanted is hosted by Laurel Bristow, an accomplished infectious disease researcher who leads social media science communications at Rollins.

“Sharing trustworthy information on public health is a vital role for public media. It’s an important time to fight disinformation, and we are so proud to partner with the Emory University Rollins School of Public Health to share trustworthy, science-based information,” says Jennifer Dorian, chief executive officer of WABE. “Listeners will appreciate Laurel Bristow’s entertaining style and excellent communication. We are thrilled that PRX is helping WABE bring this important program to public radio listeners across the country."

Recent episodes of Health Wanted have spanned an array of trending topics from the health impacts of sleep, health misinformation, and the influence of prescription drug marketing to forgotten occupational diseases and Frankenstein (the surprising history of organ transplants). Bristow is often joined by guests including medical experts, researchers, authors, and comedians to explore the topics of the week.

“Audiences will appreciate Health Wanted’s well-researched episodes, spanning a wide range of public health issues – from COVID-19 to energy drinks – all delivered in a fresh and accessible way. There's never been a better time to invest in public health education,” says Stephanie Kuo, vice president of content at PRX.

In addition to the nationally-available public radio program, Health Wanted remains available for free to podcast listeners and YouTube video viewing audiences.

“We started Health Wanted in hopes of reaching a broad section of our community through fun, fresh, and myth-busting information on health that is interesting and useful,” says Daniele Fallin, PhD, James W. Curran Dean of the Rollins School. "We are thrilled with the wonderfully positive response the show has already received from WABE’s listeners across Georgia and are excited for the opportunity to bring these discussions to more audiences nationwide.”
