Program Overview
This dual degree program offers students the opportunity to earn an MPH degree in conjunction with training in the Emory University School of Medicine PA program. The PA program, within the Department of Family and Preventive Medicine, recruits, educates, and mentors a diverse group of students to become physician assistants providing quality health care. Students may apply their combined PA and public health skills in such areas as population or clinical research, health administration leadership, and community health promotion.
MPH Concentrations
Students in the PA/MPH Dual Degree program may earn their MPH in the following concentrations:
- Behavioral, Social, and Health Education Sciences
- Environmental Health
- Epidemiology
- Global Environmental Health
- Global Epidemiology
- Global Health
- Health Policy & Management
Curriculum
PA/MPH Curriculum
Students enroll in Rollins for one calendar year (fall, spring, summer) and complete 32 semester hours of courses. They include the required MPH core courses, required departmental courses, and, in most instances, a thesis. Students must also complete an applied practice experience, a structured field experience of relevance to public health. They then complete requirements for the PA program in the School of Medicine.
The PA/MPH program:
- Uses didactic and clinical training
- Promotes physician/PA team care
- Fosters an appreciation for research, leadership, and the need to be flexible in meeting the changing needs of the health care climate
- Empowers faculty and students to become advocates for the physician assistant profession and for the delivery of primary health care
Admissions
Admissions Requirements
Candidates for this program must apply to both the Goizueta Business School and Rollins separately.
In addition to the SOPHAS application, all applicants will need to submit the following materials when applying to the MPH:
- Personal statement that addresses your interest in the field of public health and your specific interest in the Rollins School of Public Health and your concentration of interest
- College transcripts
- Two letters of recommendation
- Resume
The GRE is not required for admission and will not be considered as part of the application for admission. Academic departments may have additional requirements.
