Bio
Luis is a cardiologist with a strong background in clinical research. He has a research fellowship in the Department of Cardiology at Johns Hopkins Hospital and a Master of Public Health degree from the well-regarded Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. Luis serves as an associate professor at the Medical and Public Health School of Bahia, Brazil, and as a visiting professor in the Department of Epidemiology at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. Currently, as he begins a new career path as an epidemiologist, Luis is pursuing a PhD in Epidemiology at the Rollins School of Public Health, Emory University.
In his academic journey, Luis has concentrated on causal inference of cardiovascular outcomes, meta-research, drug regulation, and medical decision-making. He explores the complex interactions behind the causes of cardiovascular disease, the real-world effect of interventions, and how physicians make clinical decisions on cardiovascular prevention, as well as how epidemiologists select methods of causal inference. He works under the mentorship of Professor Viola Vaccarino, a renowned scientist in gender disparities and psychological factors related to cardiovascular disease, and Professor Joshua Wallach, a well-known meta-scientist and expert in drug regulation. Luis recently published his work on psychological risk factors for atherosclerosis in the American Journal of Epidemiology and a meta-research analysis on causal inference methods in JAMA Network Open.
