Bio
Joshua (Josh) Preston is a dual-degree student pursuing his MD at Emory University School of Medicine and his PhD in Nutrition and Health Sciences at Emory’s Laney Graduate School. He received his BS in Biology from the University of Kentucky in 2018. After completing the first three years of medical school from 2019–2022, Josh began his PhD in January 2023, conducting graduate studies in Dr. Dean Jones’ Clinical Biomarkers Lab in collaboration with Dr. Rafael de Cabo’s lab at the NIH National Institute on Aging Intramural Research Program.
His research interests include aging, metabolomics, biomarker discovery, nutrition, systems biology, exposomics, trauma, heart transplantation, and surgical science. Clinically, he is interested in trauma/acute care surgery, critical care nutrition, geriatrics, and endocrinology. Josh’s long-term goal is to become an academic surgeon-scientist, integrating surgical practice with a robust basic-science research program.
