Lois Conley 91PH retired from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on January 3, 2019.

Lisa M. Carlson 93PH was named president-elect of the American Public Health Association on November 13, 2018. She is an affiliated instructor at the Rollins School of Public Health, and executive administrator of research programs and operations at the Emory School of Medicine.

John Stanton Jr. 98PH 17N 18N 20N received the Excellence in Social Responsibility Award from Emory’s Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing.

Dr. Jean O’Connor 98C 01L 01PH was appointed to the National American Diabetes Association’s Board of Directors. Dr. O’Connor’s primary goal on the Board beyond the traditional duties will be to support the CEO and staff in thinking about program strategy and advocacy for government and research funding.

Dr. Fatima Cody Stanford 00C 01PH co-authored a new book entitled, “Facing Overweight and Obesity: A Complete Guide for Children and Adults”; Published February 4, 2019.

Dr. Anthony Santella 04PH received the New York State Health Department Commissioner’s HIV Special Recognition Award on December 4 2018.

Breanna Lathrop 08N 08PH co-authored, “How Neighborhoods Make Us Sick: Restoring Health and Wellness to Our Communities”; Published January 15, 2019.

Lori (Northcraft) Baxter 10A 10PH and David Baxter welcomed their second child, a son, Riley Ernest, on October 5, 2018 in their hometown of Roseburg, Oregon. Lori and family currently live in Vientiane, Laos, where they are working to expand the rights of people with disabilities with Humanity and Inclusion (Handicap International). Maria George 16PH published an article about cancer survivors and their ongoing need. The article highlights the gaps in care that survivors often face after treatment, using focus group and cancer surveillance data; Michigan Journal of Public Health, Volume 9; 2018.

Bonnie Gale 18PH started a new job at Piedmont Healthcare as a BI Analyst in Patient Experience.

Congratulations to Do Mai Hoa 02PH on receiving Emory’s 2018 Sheth Distinguished Alumni Award. The award recognizes international alumni who are highly distinguished in their field and have made outstanding contributions to humanity, science, art or human welfare. Hoa is the project coordinator for the Residency Education Reform Project at the Partnership for Health Advancement in Vietnam, an organization that aims to strengthen health care worker capacity by providing technical assistance, medical education and help with strengthening health policies in Vietnam.
In Memoriam
Patricia Toal Westall 90PH passed away on December 21, 2018. Patsy spent 30 years working in health administration in the metro Atlanta area before retiring to Delray Beach, Florida. In retirement, she devoted her time to serving her community through advocacy and volunteer work as a Guardian ad Litem and board member for the H.O.P.E. Project.
Kathleen Gayd Dylla 91PH 98MR passed away December 20, 2018. Dr. Dylla was a Family Practice Physician who practiced in the Omaha, Blair and Bellevue area of Nebraska.
