Bio

Kristin Knutzen is a doctoral candidate in the Department of Behavioral, Social, and Health Education Sciences at Emory University’s Rollins School of Public Health. Her research investigates mental health, racial trauma, and community-level adverse childhood experiences among youth. Under the mentorship of Dr. Briana Woods-Jaeger, Kristin employs community-based participatory research and qualitative methods to design, implement, and evaluate culturally relevant, multi-level interventions to address mental health inequities among youth.

Kristin holds a Master’s in Public Heath from The Dartmouth Institute for Health Policy and Clinical Practice, and a Bachelor of Arts in Neuroscience and Studio Art from Middlebury College. Prior to her matriculation at Emory, Kristin studied online marketing of nicotine and tobacco products to youth and minority populations, e-cigarette flavor preferences among youth and adults, and racial disparities in end-of-life and cancer care. Her work has been published in peer-reviewed scientific journals such as JAMA Internal Medicine, JAMA Network Open, Pediatrics, and Addiction, and highlighted by news outlets such as Reuters and CNN.
