Bio
Ayeesha Sayyad, MPH (she/her) is a doctoral student in the Department of Behavioral, Social, and Health Education Sciences at Emory University's Rollins School of Public Health working under the mentorship of Dr. Anna Newton-Levinson. She is interested in maternal and infant health with a specific focus on Black populations. Her work is oriented around reproductive justice and reducing health disparites. She is a mixed methods researcher, employing both qualitative and quantitative research designs.
Prior to her doctoral studies, Ayeesha earned a BA in philosophy-neuroscience-psychology from Washington University in St. Louis and a Master of Public Health from Georgia State University with a concentration in health promotion and behavior. Ayeesha worked as a reseach fellow in the Division of Reporductive Health at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). At CDC, she studied the impacts of public health emergencies on pregnant people and infants as part of the Emergency Preparedness and Response Team.
