We are pleased to announce that the Rollins School of Public Health received confirmation from the Council on Education for Public Health that its accreditation has been extended for an additional seven years! The school’s self-study committee, under the leadership of Dr. Richard Levinson, Dr. Kimberly Jacob Arriola, and Dr. Delia Lang, conducted an intensive two-year self-study process to ensure the school’s alignment with CEPH’s accreditation curriculum. The Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University announced Dr. Colleen McBride (Chair, BSHES), as the new associate director for community outreach and engagement. As associate director for community outreach and engagement, McBride will provide vision and oversight for Winship’s community-facing activities. Read more.

Dr. Amita Manatunga (Biostatistics) has been named as the inaugural Donna J. Brogan Professor in Biostatistics. This endowed professorship recognizes Manatunga’s excellence in teaching and research and honors the legacy of Donna Jean Brogan, PhD, emerita professor. Read more.

Dr. Thomas F. Clasen (Environmental Health) has been selected as interim chair of the Gangarosa Department of Environmental Health. Tom stepped into the position on March 3 following Dr. Paige Tolbert’s retirement.

Dr. Alvaro Alonso (Epidemiology) has been selected as the inaugural Stephen D. Clements, Jr. Distinguished Professor in Cardiovascular Disease Prevention and Research after a competitive national search. This position was established in January 2018 by the O. Wayne Rollins Foundation to honor Stephen D. Clements, Jr., MD, a distinguished Emory cardiologist and longtime friend of the Rollins family, who has dedicated his career to clinical care, prevention, and discovery in cardiovascular disease.

Dr. Shivani Patel (Global Health) has been invited to serve on the DBT/Wellcome Trust India Alliance Early Career Fellowship Selection Committee. The India Alliance is an independent, dynamic public charity that funds research in health and biomedical sciences in India. It is jointly funded by the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Government of India and the Wellcome Trust, UK. The mandate of India Alliance is to support excellence in biomedical research in India through a unique program of research fellowship schemes for scientists at key stages of their careers.
