Amy Webb Girard

Associate Professor
Faculty, Global Health
Jointly Appointed, Epidemiology
I received myPhD in Nutrition and Health Sciences from Emory University in 2006. Following postdoctoral fellowships in Epidemiology and Anthropology I joined the Hubert Department of Global Health at the RSPH in 2010. My research, teaching and service focus on the structural and social determinants of health applying a nutrition lens. Approximately half of my research examines community based, food security and social behavior change approaches to improving maternal and child health in East Africa, while the other half focuses on similar work in Atlanta. In addition to serving as a co-director of the Maternal and Child Health Certificatie program at RSPH, I co-direct the Emory Urban Health Initiative, working on projects such as Food as Medicine, a program that supports families in the Grady Healthcare System to access affordable, nutritious food. I am also a student at Emory’s Nell Hodgson School of Nursing studying to become a family nurse practitioner.
