Faculty Recognized for Research

On January 29, 2020, Rollins held a faculty research recognition reception to honor Rollins faculty’s extraordinary research achievements. During the reception, faculty were recognized for profound scholarship, exceptional grant proposals, and innovative projects, as well as for their contributions to the overall research environment at Rollins. The award recipients ranged across all departments at Rollins, including junior faculty and Rollins faculty with joint appointments.
2019 Millipub Club
Millipub club honors and recognizes current Emory faculty who have published one or more individual papers throughout their careers that have each garnered more than 1,000 citations. Such a paper is commonly considered a “citation classic” and represents high-impact scholarship.

The Emory 1% Award honors and recognizes investigators who have received study section review scores in the top one percentile on a grant proposal.

2019 Hubert Department of Global Health Research Excellence Award
This award recognizes a single article of importance to the field. The award was presented to Monique Hennink, PhD, associate professor of global health, for her article which examined sample sizes in qualitative research, published in Qualitative Health Research. Read more about this award.
2019 Rollins Research Service Award
The Rollins Research Service Award is meant to honor and thank the Rollins investigator who has gone above and beyond to improve the research environment at Rollins and to assist in the development of new research projects and programs.
Dr. Dana Barr. Recognized for her leadership of the inaugural Dean’s Pilot review committee.
2019 Dean Pilot Awards
The Dean Pilot Awards, first awarded in March of 2019, were designed to create opportunities for Rollins junior faculty (assistant professors in all tracks) to obtain preliminary data and to build collaborations that could be rapidly leveraged toward the development of new funded extramural research projects. The projects proposed had to be new, highly innovative, and as of yet unfunded and unpublished. The awards ranged from $20,000-$50,000 for 1 year.
During the reception, the pilot awardees presented a poster detailing the big idea of their project, the proposed impact, and their progress thus far.

Dr. Melissa Young, Hubert Department of Global Health. Pilot testing of an innovative imaging technology for assessing child body composition.
Dr. Dayna Johnson, Department of Epidemiology. The Urban Environment and Circadian Disruptions: Implications for Cardiovascular Health among African Americans
Rollins faculty with joint appointments in the Emory School of Medicine who received awards for research during the School of Medicine Awards Ceremony in the fall were also recognized during the reception.
