School of Public Health to receive over $850K for Zika capacity building in Latin America
The Rollins School of Public Health’s Hubert Department of Global Health a will receive $850K from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The award to the Center for Humanitarian Emergencies was granted in support of cross-collaborative Zika response and training efforts.
Led by Dabney P. Evans, PhD, MPH, an assistant professor of global health, the team will focus on vector control for Zika aimed at increasing the capacity for response in 37 Latin American and Caribbean countries. The team will conduct a capacity assessment and series of regional trainings in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) in Colombia, Guatemala, and the Caribbean.
"Two years ago the global health community faced Ebola and Emory was on the forefront of that very important work," explains Evans. "This year we are again at the forefront of the Zika response through our capacity-building efforts. This work further demonstrates our dedication to helping people be prepared and responsive when faced with emergencies."
