Cancer Reporting

Meaningful Use

The Georgia Cancer Registry/Georgia Center for Cancer Statistics (Georgia Cancer Registry--GCR) supports the submission of cancer data from Eligible Providers (EPs) participating in the Medicare or Medicaid EHR Incentive Programs that are planning to meet the Stage 2 public health measures for Meaningful Use. The Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health Act (HITECH) provides financial incentives to promote the use of Electronic Health Records (EHR). The U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services has implemented incentive programs for Eligible Providers, Eligible Hospitals and Critical Access Hospitals to adopt, implement and demonstrate Meaningful Use (MU) of Certified EHR Technology (CEHRT).

Stage 2
Began on 10/1/13 for Eligible Hospitals and 1/1/14 for Eligible Providers. See the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services website for specific Stage 2 timelines and criteria. Stage 3
Meaningful Use requirements are still under development and are scheduled to begin in 2016. See the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services website for up-to-date information on the EHR Incentive Programs.

In support of physician cancer reporting and Stage 2 Meaningful Use (MU2), the GCR is accepting data submitted from CEHRT systems. Successful ongoing submission to the GCR using this EHR reporting method will assist Eligible Providers (EPs) in receiving Medicare and Medicaid incentive funds for demonstration of Meaningful Use. The cancer reporting menu option applies only to Eligible Providers (EPs) who diagnose and/or treats cancer patients. Exclusions: EPs who do not diagnose or treat cancer patients are excluded from cancer reporting.

Providers who choose cancer reporting as their public health option must complete the registration and data testing process and demonstrate ongoing submission. If you are an Eligible Provider that diagnoses and/or treat patients, and interested in submitting cancer registry data to the Georgia Cancer Registry, please follow these steps by clicking on the appropriate arrow below:
