The Department of Epidemiology (EPI) is a community of shared values: integrity because it is foundational, ambition because we believe that public health problems can be solved and we are the ones to do it, rigor because we challenge ourselves to do all our work at the highest level, and collegiality and inclusion because students, staff, and faculty are all committed to the same goals. Our educational programs ensure that students graduate with the knowledge, skills and philosophy to affect positive change in the public’s health and with the professional skills to achieve career success.

Jenna Ciszewski

"I was nervous about pivoting into a new area of public health after working for five years in community health and health policy, but the Curran scholarship gave me the confidence to make the switch to epidemiology. The COVID-19 pandemic has demonstrated the interdependence of public health research, practice, and policy. I hope to leverage my previous work experience and the skills I am developing in epidemiological methods to bridge the gap between the science of what we know works and the implementation of programs and policies that put this public health knowledge into practice."
