Dale L. Morse, MD, MS, is the former Associate Director for Food Safety in the Division of Foodborne, Waterborne and Environmental Diseases, CDC and previously had 30 years of experience with the New York State Department of Health including directing the state's epidemiology and laboratory communicable disease control programs and served for 12 years as the State Epidemiologist, 4 years as Director of the Infectious Disease laboratory and 8 years as the Senior Science officer. He is a past President of the Council of State and Territorial Epidemiologists and in 1995 received their "Pump Handle Award" for outstanding achievement in the field of applied epidemiology. He is a former member of the CDC’s Board of Scientific Counselors, former co-editor of the British Journal of Epidemiology and Infection and a member of CDC’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) from 2005 – 2009 (Chair, 2007 – 2009) . He has extensive international experience including one year (1992-93) in England as a Consultant and Head of the Field Services Unit at the PHLS Communicable Disease Surveillance Centre and conducted short-term PAHO, WHO and CDC consultation to Argentina, Brazil, Botswana, Thailand, Taiwan, Indonesia, India, Nepal, Guatemala, Georgia and Kyrgyzstan. Since 1994 he held NIH Fogarty international training grants in AIDS, TB, hepatitis and emerging infections in 13 Eastern and Central European countries training over 100 fellows who obtained their MPHs in epidemiology at the University at Albany School of Public Health or completed postdoc training in molecular methods at the Wadsworth Center laboratories. He has worked in Georgia since 1998 where he has helped train 30 long term trainees. He is an adjunct Professor at the Hubert Department of Global Health, Emory SPH and a former Professor and Chair of Epidemiology at the University at Albany SPH and has published extensively on infectious diseases with special interests in foodborne disease, immunization, TB, AIDS and global health.
