Robert  Smith

Adjunct or Visiting, Epidemiology

I received my PhD from the State University of New York at Stony Brook in 1983. Prior to joining the staff at the American Cancer Society in 1992, I was on the faculty at the Boston University School of Public Health, and a staff epidemiologist at the CDC. At the American Cancer Society I have been involved in the development of cancer screening guidelines for the past 30 years. My primary research interests are cancer epidemiology, evaluation of cancer prevention and early detection programs, multi-chronic disease models of preventive care, and quality assurance in the delivery of health services. Awards and Honors: Honorary Fellow of the Society of Breast Imaging;  National Breast Cancer Awareness Month Board of Sponsors for Outstanding Advances in Breast Cancer; Prevent Cancer Foundation Cancer Prevention Laurel for Outstanding National Leadership;  International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) Medal of Honor; American Society for Breast Disease International Pathfinder Award.
