Dr. Drew Voetsch is currently an epidemiologist and Team Lead for the General Population Surveillance Team in the Division of Global HIV & TB at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The team is responsible for the Population-based HIV Impact Assessments (PHIA), which are large HIV-focused household surveys designed to measure HIV incidence, prevalence, and treatment outcomes in 19 PEPFAR countries. From 1995 until 2005, Dr. Voetsch worked at CDC conducting national surveillance for foodborne diseases and related epidemiologic studies in the United States and Australia. From 2005 through 2010, he was an Epidemic Intelligence Service (EIS) Officer (05-07), epidemiologist (08-09), and Acting Team Lead (09-10) for the Special Studies and Diagnostics Team in the Division of HIV/AIDS Prevention at CDC where he worked in the United States, Africa, and the Pacific on HIV clinical and behavioral surveillance. From 2010 through 2013, he was the Strategic Information Team Lead and Acting Associate Director for Science at CDC Botswana. He is an Adjunct Associate Professor in the Department of Epidemiology where he has taught and mentored students as a thesis field advisor.
